Dismissed over age, a police officer of 36 years refuses to give up and turns to court

Vaidas Giršvildas, a police officer with 36 years of service who was dismissed due to his age, has applied to the Regional Administrative Court. The officer, who celebrated his 60th birthday, says he wanted to continue working, but failed to submit a request on time, of which he knew nothing. Roma Katinienė, head of the Lithuanian Police Trade Union, suggests that behind the formal reasons for dismissal may lie a desire to get rid of an inconvenient employee.
