Patrikejevs earns first Latvia call-up: Nicolato names the squad for last Nations League games

The head coach of the Latvian national team, Paolo Nicolato, has selected a group of 25 players for the final international window of the year 2026. During this upcoming period, the squad is set to wrap up their participation in the UEFA Nations League through matches against Montenegro and Armenia. Alongside these fixtures, Ivans Patrikejevs, who serves as the captain of the Latvia U21 team, has picked up his maiden call-up to the senior squad, while Jānis Ikaunieks makes a comeback after being sidelined due to an injury during the preceding international window.

Latvia approaches these final two matches of the UEFA Nations League following a difficult stretch of games in September and October, a period during which they managed to secure only a single point across four fixtures. Under Nicolato’s leadership, the team played to a draw against Cyprus, but suffered three separate defeats. These included a 0-2 loss away against Armenia, a 1-2 defeat at home to Montenegro, and another 1-2 setback away from home against Cyprus.

Among the players selected for this latest roster is Queens Park Rangers defender Denniss Cirkins. He recorded his senior international debut during the prior window and appeared in three out of Latvia’s four matches.

Another notable inclusion is Jānis Ikaunieks, who recently assisted RFS in capturing the Latvian Virslīga championship. Although the attacking midfielder was forced to miss the previous international window because of an injury, he is now available for selection once again, joined by four total players from the newly crowned Latvian champion club.

In addition, 21-year-old midfielder Ivans Patrikejevs has secured his initial selection for the senior national squad. Representing SK Super Nova, the Latvia under-21 captain has logged 32 appearances in the Virslīga over the course of the season, registering two goals and three assists. His addition offers Nicolato another alternative in the midfield area as the team attempts to conclude their tournament campaign on a positive note.

Because they have gathered just one point from their initial four matches, Latvia is mathematically unable to finish any higher than third place in their UEFA Nations League group.

The schedule dictates that Latvia will first travel away to play against Montenegro on November 12, prior to coming back home to host Armenia on November 15 for the conclusion of their Nations League schedule.

The November 2026 Latvia National Team squad list includes goalkeepers Rihards Matrevics from RFS with 21 caps and zero goals; Nils Toms Puriņš from Auda with 3 caps and zero goals; and Frenks Dāvids Orols from Riga FC with 2 caps and zero goals.

The defenders selected are Roberts Savaļnieks of RFS with 77 caps and 2 goals; Andrejs Cigaņiks of Luzern in Switzerland with 76 caps and 4 goals; Raivis Andris Jurkovskis of Riga FC with 65 caps and zero goals; Antonijs Černomordijs of Riga FC with 52 caps and 3 goals; Daniels Balodis of Auda with 28 caps and 1 goal; Deniss Meļņiks of Falkirk in Scotland with 16 caps and zero goals; Maksims Toņiševs of Riga FC with 11 caps and 1 goal; Denniss Cirkins of QPR in England with 3 caps and zero goals; and Oskars Vientiess of Teplice in the Czech Republic with 3 caps and zero goals.

The midfielders called up comprise Eduards Emsis from Super Nova with 36 caps and 2 goals; Eduards Dašķevičs from Auda with 28 caps and 1 goal; Dmitrijs Zelenkovs from RFS with 28 caps and 1 goal; Lūkass Vapne from Sogndal in Norway with 24 caps and zero goals; Kristaps Grabovskis from Dila in Georgia with 4 caps and zero goals; Markuss Strods from Bohemians in Ireland with 4 caps and 1 goal; Danila Patijčuks from Liepāja with 3 caps and zero goals; Kristers Čudars from Ogre United with 2 caps and zero goals; and Ivans Patrikejevs from Super Nova, who is currently uncapped.

Finally, the forwards named to the squad are Jānis Ikaunieks from RFS with 74 caps and 12 goals; Vladislavs Gutkovskis from Arka Gdynia in Poland with 65 caps and 14 goals; Roberts Uldriķis from Heerenveen in the Netherlands with 60 caps and 8 goals; and Alberts Aleksanjans from Norrköping in Sweden with 2 caps and zero goals.
